Wellphoria’s Curly Hair Tips And Tricks

< All Posts

Many of us grew up believing that it’s best to shampoo and brush your hair every day. If you have curly hair, however, that’s not always a good idea. Curly girls may have to use non-traditional haircare methods to protect their strands, bring out definition and reduce frizz. If you’re still using the wash, rinse, repeat method and tugging a brush through your hair regularly, you might want to try these curly hair tips and tricks.

Shampoo Less

Sudsing your hair frequently can strip it of its natural oils. Curly hair already tends to get dry at the ends because its texture prevents oils from flowing down the hair strand. Cleansing it only once or twice a week can help it look fresh without drying it out.

Moreover, your curls loosen up in the days following a shower. Some curly-haired people prefer the way that their style looks on the second or third day after a shampoo.

If your hair gets greasy, it might take some time to get used to this new routine. But washing too often can make your hair respond by getting oilier faster. Give it two weeks. Your hair will gradually hold its style for longer without getting greasy.

Focus on Your Scalp

A healthy-looking scalp produces healthy-looking hair. Concentrate on nourishing your skin as well as your hair.

Massaging your scalp helps loosen buildup. Keeping your scalp hydrated by using hair and scalp oil can help your tresses look more moisturized.

When you’re using cleansing products, such as shampoo, you don’t have to work it through the ends of your hair. Focus on the scalp, giving it a good massage and rinsing out dandruff and residue.

Scrunch Your Hair

How often do you manipulate your hair? Most people pull it tight while twisting into a towel after a shower. They detangle it using a brush, which stretches the strands.

Curly hair wants to bounce back up into coils. It has more keratin on one side of the strand than the other, which makes it bend in one direction. Encouraging your curls to remain in their natural shape enhances definition and reduces styling time.

That’s where scrunching comes into play. After your shower, flip your head onto a smooth, absorbent fabric. Scrunch it up, and let it sit on your head to absorb the extra moisture. Try to avoid using a brush or other products that stretch your strands. If you need to detangle, do so using your fingers or a wide-toothed comb in the shower after coating your hair with conditioner.

Try Dusting

Dusting is an at-home method of eliminating split ends. This can tame flyaways and reduce breakage. It could encourage your hair to grow longer. This is a time-consuming practice, but it can help your hair look healthy between salon visits.

Grab a pair of sharp scissors, and commit to dusting your hair every month or so. To do it, style your hair as usual. When your hair is dry, trim off the end of each curl. Focus on nipping off split ends; don’t remove more than ¼ inch at a time. You can also twist each curl until it forms a straight, tight spiral. Cut off any stray ends that stick out of the twirl.

Don’t fight your curls. Learn to work with your hair type to let its natural texture shine.
